Square Pulse Generation

The ModBox-Pulse is an optical modulation unit that generates high-performance optical pulses. The equipment incorporates a modulation stage based on a high bandwidth LiNb03 Mach-Zehnder modulator, coupled with a high-performance pulse RF driver and an automatic bias control circuitry. It also integrates an optional laser source and a programmable pulse generator. Options include Internal laser, Internal pulse generator, Internal optical receiver with shorter rise/fall time custom designs. For applications requiring higher contrast, there is a double stage modulator version option with a contrast ratio greater than 55 dB.

 Arbitrary Pulse Shaper ModBox

The Photline Modbox-Pulse-Shaper is an Optical Modulation Unit to generate short shaped pulses with high extinction ratio. It allows dynamic extinction ratio from 35 dB to above 55 dB with user adjustable pulse duration, repetition rate and temporal pulse shape. One benefit of the Photline Modbox-Pulse-Shaper is to pre-compensate the pulse distortion that occurs in the amplifiers chains that operate in (a highly) saturated regime. Options include Laser source, Optical amplifier, AWG, Pulse Extinction Ratio (35 dB, 55 dB), Input/Output connector (bare fiber, FC/APC, SC/APC). Note that optical connectors are Senko with narrow key or equivalent. Applications include inertial confinement fusion, interaction of intense light with matter and laser plasma interaction. For applications requiring higher contrast, there is a double stage modulator version option with a contrast ratio greater than 55 dB.

Laser Front End ModBox

The ModBox Front-End is a complete laser system that includes a seed laser, a pulse shaper, an optical fiber amplifier and a spectral broadening unit.

ModBoxes Front-End are key systems to build the front-end part of ultra-intense lasers used in laser fusion, inertial confinement fusion, interaction of intense light with matter. They are used in many famous ultra-intense laser facilities all over the world. Options include Arbitrary Waveform Generator, Delay generator, Laser Source, Optical amplifier, ModBox-Spectral Broadening. The pulse energy per 1 ns pulse width could be 100 pJ, 250 pJ, 300 pJ, 800 pJ. The Extinction ration could be 30 dB or 60 dB. The pulse width starts at 125 ps.

Spectral Broadening

The Spectral Broadening ModBox achieves the broadening of an optical signal by modulating its phase via the means of a very efficient LiNb03 phase modulator. A number of sidebands are created over a spectral width that can reach several hundred GHz. This suppresses Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS). It can be externally triggered and has very low insertion loss. Applications include Inertial confinement fusion, Interaction of intense light with matter, Laser-plasma interaction, Laser implosion, Interaction of ion beam with HP laser. Options include wavelengths from 780 nm up to 2220 nm, alternative synthesizer frequencies, rack-mount or module version.

MODBOX-SB-NIR – Spectral Broadening ModBox of up to 0.3 nm @ 1030 nm, 1053 nm, 1064 nm.

Dynamic Extinction Ratio Measurement

The ModBox-DER is a measurement equipment that can measure High Extinction Ratios (up to 50 dB) of short optical pulses (from 100 ps) and pulse widths of as short as 5ns. The principle is based on splitting the high DER optical pulse in two parts: one part is strongly attenuated by a factor which is typically the expected value of the DER. On the other part, most of the pulse is retrieved using a high extinction modulator, leaving only the “foot” of it. Those two parts are then measured with the same high bandwidth – high sensitivity photodetector for which only a few dB of dynamic range are required.

 Pulse Picker

The ModBox-Pulse Picker allows to pick any pulse or pulse sequence in an incoming pulse train. It acts as a fast gate with low insertion loss and high extinction, and is available in a wide range of wavelengths. Selection of optical pulses within an incoming pulse train at speeds from DC to 10 GHz is possible.

Key features include: Very High Extinction Ratio (35 dB, 55 dB), Fast Rise & Fall Times, Optical Square Waveform, and Low Jitter.

It can be used as a reference transmitter in laboratories and production for a broad variety of applications such as components and material characterization, seeder for high energy lasers, lidars etc.
