Reference Telecom Transmitters

Telecom ModBoxes are Optical Modulation Units and Transmitters that are mainly used as reference transmitters to characterize network components, such as optical receivers. They are also used in laboratories for the development of next-generation telecom devices.

For a variety of modulation formats and wavelengths, the Telecom ModBoxes offer the ultimate performance in terms of rise and fall time, jitter, eye stability and therefore allow to observe the signal impairments caused by the network and its components.

OOK-NRZ

The ModBox-NRZ series is a family of Reference Transmitters that generate excellent quality NRZ optical data streams up to 28 Gb/s, 44 Gb/s, 50 Gb/s. These transmitters produce very clean eye diagrams with high SNR and short rise and fall times. They also provide the flexibility of adjusting the extinction ratio for vertical eye closure (VER option).

This provides R&D and Production engineers with a user-friendly turn-key instrument delivering state of the art performance. It is being used in optical telecommunications laboratories and production test beds. The equipment incorporates a modulation stage based on a chirp-free LiNb03 Mach-Zehnder modulator, coupled with a high-performance RF driver and an automatic bias control circuitry. It also integrates a DFB laser source.

ModBox-850nm-NRZ – Generates excellent quality NRZ optical data streams up to 28 Gb/s, 44 Gb/s, 50 Gb/s at 850 nm.

ModBox-Oband-NRZ – Generates excellent quality NRZ optical data streams up to 28 Gb/s, 44 Gb/s, 50 Gb/s at 1310 nm, Oband.

ModBox-Cband-NRZ – Generates excellent quality NRZ optical data streams up to 28 Gb/s, 44 Gb/s, 50 Gb/s at 1550 nm, C- band.

ModBox-1310nm-1550nm-NRZ – Dual band Generates excellent quality NRZ optical data streams up to 28 Gb/s, 44 Gb/s, 50 Gb/s at 1310 nm and 1550 nm. Dual O- and C-band.

OOK-NRZ Stress Eye

The ModBox-OBand-28Gb/s-NRZ-SE provides production and R&D engineers a solution for Stress Receiver Sensitivity test & measurements. This Reference Transmitter delivers high-quality NRZ clean eye diagram and offers the possibility to add variable Stress to the data. This optical transmitter operates with data-rate from 155 Mb/s up to 28 Gb/s, and provides an independent solution for tunable stress magnitudes in both horizontal (time) and vertical (optical power) eye axis (Stressed Eye).
It is primarily intended for electrical to optical conversion in an Optical Stressed Eye test set up for 100 GbE IEEE 802.3-2012 standard. This unit is also used to test communication links and other telecommunication stress simulation purposes.

ModBox-OBand-NRZ-SE – This O-band optical transmitter operates with data-rate from 155 Mb/s up to 28 Gb/s, and provides an independent solution for tunable stress magnitudes in both horizontal (time) and vertical (optical power) eye axis (Stressed Eye).

ModBox-850-NRZ-SE – This 850nm optical transmitter operates with data-rate from 155 Mb/s up to 28 Gb/s, and provides an independent solution for tunable stress magnitudes in both horizontal (time) and vertical (optical power) eye axis (Stressed Eye).

OOK-PAM4

The ModBox-PAM4 series is a 4-level Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM4) Optical Reference Transmitters that generate excellent quality PAM4 optical data streams up to 28 Gbaud and 56 GBaud. The PAM4 ModBox is a highly linear optical transmitter featuring very high quality and robust Eye Diagrams coming with low jitter and really fast rise and fall times. The ModBox also provides vertical eye closure capability with the VER – Variable Extinction Ratio – option. The equipment incorporates a modulation stage based on a chirp-free LiNb03 Mach-Zehnder modulator, coupled with a highly linear RF driver and an automatic bias control circuitry.

The ModBox-PAM4 integrates also the following options:

•  ER4 / LR4: CWDM or LAN-WDM 4 lasers sources

•  SR4: 850nm laser source

•  PON: 1310nm and 1490m laser sources.

VNA

The ModBox-VNA is a wide bandwidth Optical Transmitter designed to extend Vectorial Network Analyzers applications into the optical domain. When associated with a Vectorial Network Analyzer, they make up a high performance and easy to use test equipment for photoreceivers or any high-speed optoelectronic device characterization. The ModBox-VNA- incorporates a low noise DBR laser source and a modulation stage based on a large bandwidth LiNbO3 analog modulator with an automatic bias control circuit. This comes in options for 40GHz and 65GHz at 850nm, O-Band, and C-Band.

QPSK & QAM

The ModBox-iQ is a high-performance modulation unit that allows telecommunication engineers and research scientists to produce optical signals with complex modulation schemes (QpsK, QaM, oFDM). The ModBox-iQ is easy to use and finds its place in production testbeds, development laboratories, and scientific setups. The high bandwidth and low harmonic distortion of the ModBox-iQ allow to generate particularly clean QaM and oFDM optical signals thanks to the high linearity of its internal components. The ModBox-iQ integrates a high bandwidth dual Mach-Zehnder modulator and high-speed rF drivers capable of dealing with data rates up to 32 Gbaud. It features an embedded control electronics that allows to set the modulator operating point in various positions so as to multiply the test scenarios

DPSK

The ModBox-1550nm-12Gbps-DPSK is an optical modulation unit that generates high-performance DPSK optical data streams. The equipment incorporates a modulation stage based on a high data rate LiNb03  Mach-Zehnder modulator, coupled with a high-performance RF driver and an automatic bias control circuitry. It can also receive an internal laser source (DFB, ITLA…), a receiver stage based on a delay line interferometer and balanced detector.

The ModBox-1550nm-12Gbps-DPSK provides R&D and production engineers with state of the art performance and the peace of mind of a turn-key instrument. It can be used as a reference transmitter in optical telecommunications laboratories, or in production test beds. In addition to the traditional 1550 nm wavelength range, it is also available at 1310 nm.

ModBox-CBand-12-DPSK – ModBox for DPSK, with 1550 nm laser, up to 12 Gbps. Option at 1310 nm available.
